Ruins of Hohenurach Castle

Erected in the 11th century by the Count of Urach and expanded in the 16th century by the Dukes of Württemberg into a regional fortress, the castle has towered as a picturesque ruin over the old town since 1765. From here one has a wonderful view of the Erms Valley with its fruit orchards and vineyards.

The beautiful forest path rising up to the well signposted fortress ruins starts at the Maisental hiking car park next to the Urach waterfall.

The ruins of Hohenurach Castle are accessible to the public throughout the year.

Opportunities for stopping off are provided by the kiosk on the high level waterfall meadows (only open during the summer season), the public house Maisentalstüble and the park café Friedrichsau near the waterfall car park.
